On Saturday, August 24th The Anchor welcomes New York based band Andy Animal’s Cannibal Tribe to the Asbury Park boardwalk and more specifically to Langosta Lounge. The band features Asbury’s own Sweet Joey on drums. The Anchor hosted another of Joey’s bands earlier this summer, the Brooklyn based Vietnam. Turned out to be one of the best shows we’ve ever seen in town. We’re expecting the same from Andy Animal’s Cannibal Tribe who are best described in this Village Voice article from May of this year:

“I’m still getting used to playing guitar in front of people, ” Andy says. “We’re trying to sound like Davie Allan and the Arrows…they did a lot of ’60s biker movie soundtracks.” Also: punk pioneer Link Wray. Eschewing most new music except for that of his friends, Andy is most inspired by that magical time in the 1960s when the building blocks of punk rock were just being created. The band’s vibe is also reminiscent of John Waters and old cannibal films, naturally. The two female backup singers look like they’ve just stepped off the set of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!

The Slims were supposed to play also but they had some issues come up that will prevent that from happening. So another surprise band will fill the void. Stop by and see who. Langosta Lounge is located in the Second Ave. pavilion on the Asbury boardwalk.
