STREET SEEN

FROM DISASTER COMES BEAUTY

The destructive force of nature can often breed beauty. It’s all about perspective. After Hurricane Sandy ripped through New Jersey, I stepped outside my Asbury Park apartment to document the aftermath. These photos bare witness to what I saw as I crisscrossed my way from the downtown to the oceanfront. They serve as a reminder […]

WEAR YOUR HELMETS KIDS

This little dude wants to learn how to ride a motorcycle. He stopped myself and fellow rider and Anchor contributor Seth Ferris on 8th Ave. in Asbury Park a few weeks back to see if he could make a deal for one of our bikes. Five grand and it’s yours kid. Needless to say he […]

DAN HIGGS ON COOKMAN AVE.

Baltimore native Dan Higgs is perhaps best known as the front man for the band Lungfish and as a well respected tattooer who’s worked with the likes of Ed Hardy and Freddy Corbin out in San Francisco to name a few. He’s also worked in several shops in and around New Jersey.

THE GOOD TIMES ARE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER ON ASBURY’S BOARDWALK

We all know by now that the Jersey Shore took a real old-fashioned ass whoopin’ by a bad-ass bitch named Sandy. Nothing new to report there. But instead of dwelling on the mayhem and destruction that’s invaded our lives over the past week, we’d rather think about the good times of the past and the […]

SPOOKY WINDOW ON SUMMERFIELD

Halloween is right around the corner. And so is this spooky Great Expectations-themed window display down the block from us at the Jewish Family and Children’s Service building on Summerfield Avenue. Seems such a public display is a bit out of place for a family services organization. But we love it nonetheless. Go see it in the rotting flesh.

JAMES REILLY: MAN ABOUT ASBURY

James Reilly is a man about Asbury. And he wants to tickle this town from the inside out. His words, not mine. Ignite the masses through his rock n’ roll I tell you. James is the front man for both Ba Babes and The Grand K. He’s also the overlord of the Bond Street Bar […]

JOHNNY CASH ALIVE AND WELL ON THIS DUDE’S CAR

Somebody in Asbury Park loves Johnny Cash. It’s this guy seen stopped at the corner of Cookman Ave. and Bond Street. AP’s former famous resident, that’s right, Cash owned a condo in The Berkeley back in the eighties, is alive and well on the back of this dudes car.

TRACTOR TRAILER BIKE MAN

We call this guy tractor trailer bike man. And dude is pretty god damn ingenious. If you’re around Asbury enough you’ve seen his scrap metal transporting bicycle contraption in action. Dude took a 12 foot construction ladder, attached a wheel chair to the ass end of it, then fastened the whole rig to the back […]
