Wonder Bar’s Happy Mondays guarantee you a great start to your week by bringing free music to Asbury Park on a night that’s usually dead on arrival. Who cares if you have to work on Tuesday morning? Liquor up, laquer down and go see some original live music on an a night that doesn’t normally have any. Your boss will hopefully understand.

Christine Feola, bartender and creative spark to these events, collaborates with local artists to bring a trio of talented bands to the stage each week. With genres ranging from thrashing metal to the more recent additions of indie-pop, rock, and folk, even the most eclectic of tastes can be soundly satisfied. This week, Full Fathom 5, Thomas Wesley Stern, and Mad Feather Group all took the stage for leg shaking ensembles that were soulfully smooth with a folky groove.

Full Fathom 5’s Tony Tedesco – a whiskey toting, eye patch wearing guitarist – created a prison blues feel while his co-vocalist, Audrey-Kate Geiger, brought young, harmonious melodies to create a collaborative sound that all ages would find intriguing. Speaking of age, the members of this group are just as diverse as the instruments they play. An accordion, mandolin – even a xylophone was used – as this array of unique time-pieces melded with the rest, reviving once forgotten tools of the trade.

Thomas Wesley Stern provided me with a second chance to see them which still isn’t enough. Their talent is shown not only by their collaborative vocals, but by their ability to mix instruments on stage. Folk driven instruments like the banjo, ukulele, violin, and stand-up bass were used beside lyrics bristled with stories that you’d love to hear again and again. The folk genre is truly alive with the bright sound that feels like home, even in a bar, with this group.

Mad Feather Group is a riot, or as they describe themselves on their Facebook page, “magic with stuffing”. Dave Colon, lead vocals and guitarist, was putting on a show for the crowd, dancing his pants off, and that was before the band even went on stage. Finally getting their chance to jam, they delivered funky, and trippy transitions. Synthesizers and sound effects were used with the rest of the usual suspects bringing an amazing sound to end a beautiful night.

Happy Mondays at the Wonderbar is all about music, local flavor, and friends. This isn’t a concert venue where you wait in line, pay a cover, and can’t get a good enough view. It’s free, there’s never a line, and best of all, the band’s here are making friends as well as fans. You can shake their hand, thank them, and even share a drink. Mondays are dismal let’s face it, but at least now you have something to look forward to.

The Wonder Bar is located at 1213 Ocean Ave. in Asbury Park. For more information regarding Happy Mondays visit www.thewonderbarasbury.com.

a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my agreement.
Do you know any methods to help prevent content from being
