It makes sense that baristas are often plugged into the most interesting things in any community. James Caverly of Booskerdoo (36 Beach Road, Monmouth Beach and opening soon on River Road in Fair Haven) shared some some thoughts with us about the good life in Coastal Monmouth County.

Perfect bar or place for a beer?
Bond Street before it gets crowded… they got everything I need.

Favorite Jersey Shore building/architecture?
All the houses near the water throughout Monmouth County. That style is simply my favorite architectural style of anything anywhere. It symbolizes the life we lead around here…

Most relaxing night out?
Dinner at Brandl in Belmar with my beautiful wife, Amelia.

Your ideal breakfast or lunch spot on a day off?
Chat and Nibble (Asbury Park) has the best tasting breakfast I’ve ever had.

Best Jersey Shore pizza?
Sea Bright Pizza… how I miss it so.

Favorite grocery store/market or other local shop?
Loch Arbour Liquors… Joe knows his wine!

Getting ice cream from Nagle’s in Ocean Grove and walking to the beach.

Fantasy baseball projection articles… the coolest lame thing you can possible read.

Do you have a coffee mentor?
I do… the Shafto Brothers… old salt roasters (now retired). They roasted for everyone back in the day. They even brought flavored coffee to the White House when it was first introduced by them. They taught me everything.

Favorite little-known local history fact?
Before the 1916 shark attacks that happened over 12 days of terror, no one thought sharks attacked humans.

Hurricane Sandy moment that defined the Jersey Shore’s resilience for you?
Watching all the Monmouth Beach businesses rebuild… slowly, but surely.

What projects are keeping you busy when not making coffee?
A new baby! 9 weeks old Claire. Best project ever.
