REVIEW: TIM’S VERMEER

Ever take an art history course? An art appreciation course? If so, you’ve probably heard about Johannes Vermeer – a 17th century painter most professors get a total hard-on for. He’s “the painter who painted with light.” It does sound rather transmundane.

Well, they’ve made a documentary about him called Tim’s Vermeer. It’s currently showing at The Showroom in Asbury Park at 7:15pm but you’ll soon be able to find it on Netflix if it’s not there already. The film goes like this: (more…)

They’ll knock down this vintage 1960s bowling alley and world renowned music venue in favor of horrible looking Hovnanian built townhouses without blinking an eye. That’s what you do when you’re soulless. When making money trumps (no pun there) history, culture and the like. That will be the downfall of Asbury Park. White guys in dark suits. (more…)

SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT AT PARLOR GALLERY

Parlor Gallery, who recently celebrated 5 years in downtown Asbury, presents the opening of “Something To Sing About”, a solo show by Ryan Cronin plus “Do Re Mi”, a small group show in the back gallery on Saturday, march 15th from 7 to 11 p.m.

Ryan Cronin’s paintings, which use your typical Rustoleum paints, are certainly not short on color. The childlike, rawness of his work brings a sense of humor that’s both simple and entertaining. Art doesn’t have to be so stuck up and pretentious and that is certainly the case with Cronin’s pieces. (more…)
