We can’t stress enough how lucky we are to have a venue like The Showroom art house cinema here in downtown Asbury Park. If you haven’t been, please go and support. Time and time again The Showroom features quality film that you normally would have to drive to the city to see.

Case in point is the announcement that The Showroom will be showing Filmage: The Story of the Descendents/All on Friday October 11th and Saturday, October 12th. Tickets are going really fast so if you are interested you better get on it. The 10PM show on Friday is SOLD OUT and the 8PM screening almost there as well. There is also a 10PM show on Saturday. $10.

The film goes like this:

Long before Green Day and Blink 182 inflicted punk-rock’s puncture wound on the map of mainstream music, the Descendents were in a garage concocting the perfect mix of pop, angst, love, and coffee. FILMAGE: THE STORY OF DESCENDENTS / ALL follows band leader/drummer/square-peg Bill Stevenson and his “caffeinated retardedness” as he pushes his rotating door of bandmates to “achieve ALL, ” his philosophy of going for greatness at all costs. Stevenson is a force to be reckoned with, proving that not even a grapefruit-sized brain tumor can keep him down. Interviews with the band, along with Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Mike Watt (Minutemen), Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion) and many more reveal the story of a band–if not THE band–responsible for pop-punk as you know it is a documentary about a place filled with magic and music, legend and folklore. It is a place where, even before the Civil Rights Movement really took shape, the color of your skin didn’t matter inside the studio.

The Showroom is located at 707 Cookman Ave. in Asbury Park. More details at
